Bonjour Reader Earlier this month, we spent 12 fantastic days in what's become one of our favourite provinces in Canada and that's Newfoundland! If you haven't been yet, you really need to add it to your list. ✈️ In this issue:

Newfoundland's West CoastI didn't expect to be hearing "left coast is the best coast" in Newfoundland but we got the FULL Western Newfoundland experience on our 12 days. This is also in addition to the 3 days in Gros Morne I did 2 years ago. The Big DrawGros Morne National Park is what draws visitors to this part of the province. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 1,805 square kilometres, that's filled with outdoor wonders. None is more famous than the Tablelands where earth’s mantle is exposed and makes a remarkable backdrop. In addition to this, you get a fresh-water fjord, rugged coastline, thunderous waterfalls, towering mountains, and charming enclave communities. As my second trip, I really wanted to do the Western Brook Pond day hike and well, we made that happen! It was a challenging hike but the view at the top made it worth it. If this looks familiar, this is close to where they filmed the opening scene of the Air Canada safety video. Drive To The VikingsThe Viking Trail is a major feature of Western Newfoundland and while there aren't necessarily a string of viking settlements along the road, it's a scenic drive that eventually leads you all the way to L'Anse aux Meadow. This is a very significant archeological discovery because it is the first known evidence of European presence in the Americas. At the site you'll find mounds of where the actual settlement was built and next to it, a recreation of what how these houses were built and how they lived. Stay In A Lightkeeper's HouseWe certainly didn't have this on our bingo card but at the far north east end of Newfoundland is the island of Quirpon. As the last guests of the season, we stayed 2 nights here, getting to hike to different parts of the island and enjoy the tranquility of being out on a very isolated place. The Underrated ParkThe biggest discovery was near the city of Corner Brook and the whole Bay of Islands region of the west coast. Zooming in a bit further, they're currently working on getting this area classified as a UNESCO Global Geopark under the name of Cabox (pronounced Kay-box). Within it, places like the Blow Me Down Provincial Park is in its early days but we got to see first-hand the work locals have been putting in to create trails like the East Blow Me Down Trail which features the exact same mantle rock that the Tablelands is famous for. Looking to get away from the big crowds of Gros Morne? This is the secret spot that most people miss! The Newfoundland Way Of LifeWe did so much more but a running theme of the trip was just learning directly from the locals. It's not easy to live up here and so their resiliency, strong community, living off of the land, and hardworking summers to pay off for the long winters was fascinating to hear about. Thanks to activities such as our UTV tour with Under the Stump and our B&B stay with Upper Humber Settlement where we got to make our own blueberry jam and have a farm-to-table storytelling dinner, we gleaned so much more into the Newfoundland way of life. After that, there's a lot of catching up to do with work that we've been pushing off.
