GIFTS FOR TRAVEL LOVERS

With the holiday season upon us, it's always a good idea to think ahead!

We've written about the best gifts for travel lovers in the past but we wanted to revisit it and share a few new ones that you can consider this year for friends and family or to treat yo'self.

GRAYL UltraPress

This is perfect for the hiker, backpacker, and traveler that wants to make sure their water if safe to drink and filtered. Since the filter is built in, the way it works is that you fill the water bottle, press it down, and that's it. It removes most waterborne pathogens which is key for drinking the world's sketchiest freshwater sources.

Why we love it: It's in a smaller form factor than their original bottle, it's great for the environment, and the purification process is super easy.

Philips Sonicare One

Last year, I switched to this toothbrush because I needed something more compact and could fit in my Peak Design Small Wash Pouch.

Why we love it: It's USB-C chargeable, takes up less space, and still gives you that Sonicare brush.

Peak Design Ultralight Packing Cube

One of PD's newest products that we'll be reviewing soon. They're minimalist friendly and works in a backpack, duffel, and suitcase to keep your gear and clothing organized. I'm a big fan!

Why we love it: Ultralight, collapsible, and versatile.

Travel Pill Organizer

I normally just travel with multi-vitamins but with all of the supplements that I'm on because of my knee, this is becoming super relevant.

Why we love it: Compact and sleek organizer that has slots for every day of the week.

Airplane Phone Holder

If you don't have something like a Peak Design Mobile Tripod, this is an amazing do-hickey that clamps onto the plane tray and allows your phone to magnetically connect.

Why we love it: No more awkward holding with your hand so you can watch all of your downloaded movies on your favorite streaming app.

AllTrails+

Instead of physical gifts, the hiker in your life might love 1 year access to AllTrails+. It's something that most of us are a little too cheap to get so would make a great gift.

Why we love it: AllTrails+ gives you access offline maps, alerts for wrong turns, more map detail, and access to way more guides.

Super Bagel

No, we're not talking about Everything Everywhere All At Once but this is the MOGICS Super Bagel. I used it last year on our big trip and it was super handy to have a compact power bar (in the shape of a bagel).

Why we love it: It's a universal adapter, it gives you 5 AC sockets (North American), 1 USB-A, and 1 USB-C, and has a built-in fuse.

✏️What's New on the Site

We've been really busy this month with a few new articles including my retrospective on the Google Web Creator event. There's also our usual posts on trips we've taken and we have also updated a few older posts including a couple of gift guides, ready for the shopping season!

☝️ What's Next at Going Awesome Places

It's finally done - only 1 month behind but now we finally have a proper studio space for Going Awesome Places! Check out how the renovations progressed from start to finish with this Reel and also a fun one showing the before and after.

Knee update: Things are progressing well thanks to ramping up to 2x physio a week and lymphatic drainage to help with the swelling. Having tested things out with a short trip to Google HQ, it held up well so I think I'm ready to ease into bigger adventures!

Speaking of Google, the Web Creator Conversation Event was intense. I met 19 other creators who have all been outspoken about the impacts of the latest algorithm changes. I broke down everything I learned at the event and the good news is that they're interested in fixing things but the bad news is that the timeline is feeling like 6 months or more.

Next up, we're traveling with my in-laws to London, UK to see family, check out the Christmas markets and lights, and show them around. If you have any tips on spots we have to eat or places to check out, please let us know by replying back!

Snowy destinations we plan to ski into this winter

Maybe its the Canadian in me but I do love winter, especially when its time to start planning where to hit the slopes. But even if you are not too keen on skiing or snowboarding, there are incredible snowy destinations you can visit to get that crisp winter adventure without flying down a hill at high speeds.

  • Sapporo, Japan: This charming city in Hokkaido absolutely comes alive in winter, visit for the Sapporo Snow Festival and join in with activities such as onsens, horseback riding, and enjoying the incredible cuisine.

  • Banff, Alberta, Canada: We admit the draw for this place is the slopes, with some of the most epic ski locations in Canada. However, you can also visit for the snow sculptures, the bizarre skijoring, and the SnowDays festival.

  • Magdalen Islands, Canada: Visit the wind-swept archipelago of islands and Canada's best kept secret for red fox and seal spotting, heartwarming heritage and hospitality, and some of the best light for winter photography we have found.

  • Val Thorens, French Alps: As Europe's highest rest point this place is really something special, the quality of the powder and the views from the slopes are unrivalled. If the slopes are your thing, this is the place to go.

For these trips you are going to need to pack some serious winter friendly gear! We have you covered with everything you need to keep cozy, without weighing down your luggage limits! Hit the button below for all our tried and tested winter gear for cold weather.

Here's the latest from the industry with a few articles that we think you'll enjoy.

In the spirit of the festive shopping season...

Like really? Does anyone actually save their big ticket purchases for the airport? We just use it to stock up on Toblerone and giant bags of Haribo!

What is the most extravagant thing you've every bought in an airport? And no, the overpriced sandwiches don't count.

We can never thank you enough for being part of our journey. We wish all or our American friends a great Thanksgiving and hope you also find some good deals to boot.

Cheers,

Will Tang
